The Worldwide Women’s Association Recognizes Anna L. Koosmann

Anna L. Koosmann is the founder and principal architect of A+Works, an innovative architecture and design practice that blends art and architecture to create beautiful and functional spaces that foster a positive change in their environment. Her work encompasses placemaking, community design and commercial renovations, and centers on collaboration and public interest design to raise the standard of how buildings and organizations interact with their communities.

In addition to running A+Works, Anna serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona, where she is on a tenure-track design-build faculty for the Drachman Design-Build Coalition in the College of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture. Passionate about teaching, she is inspired by collaborative projects and demonstrates excellent communication skills not always apparent in one with her design prowess.

After earning a bachelor’s degree cum laude in Architecture and Art History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Anna went on to complete a Master of Architecture from the University of Washington. She is licensed by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and registered as an Architect in the State of Washington, she was recipient of a Fulbright and her research received an EDRA CORE award.

Residing today in Tucson, Anna has published numerous articles about national and international issues as they pertain to urban planning, community development and sustainable design. She is a SEED Network member, she has extensive volunteer service, and has collaborated with culturally-diverse and economically-challenged communities in the U.S. and abroad; including, serving on the Housing Advocacy Committee of AIA Minnesota and as co-Founder of TiLT Community Design Build, a grassroots coalition of designers, artists and architects working to create architecture that effects a positive change.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Anna enjoys yoga, photography, painting and bicycling. She credits her success to the many great mentors she has been inspired by along the way, most notably her father.
