The Worldwide Women’s Association Recognizes Karen May


 

Karen May is the Founder and Executive Director of Abilities Development Ltd,  a Cognitive Learning and Educational Organization in Harrow, UK. She has had her NGO for over 10 years, and has been working in Special Education for nearly 20 years . All her life she has wanted to help and teach.

She has a particular passion for individuals that are labeled with a disability. She works with the young adults and their families with custom programs and promote independent life skills with a variety of services for the adults, family, and within the community. She works holistically to promote day programs and in-home services. She is driven to get students all the advantages out there in reaching each individual potential. She is determined not to put labels and stereotypical barriers in front of them.

Karen has worked all her life in teaching and Special Needs Educational Development. She has worked from Kindergarten up working tirelessly with the families and children as early as possible. She was Special Needs Advisory Teacher for The Hertfordshire County Council in the UK and worked as a Teacher and Department Head prior.  Karen seeks to change the perspectives and perceptions of society on individuals with disabilities.

Karen is a member of the Leaders Council in the UK and has been engaged in Public Speaking and Advocacy for many years. She and her organization also work in partnership with organizations who support adults labelled with disabilities . She is an experienced Leader, Advisor, Program Director, Fundraiser, Public Speaker and Teacher.

Karen graduated top of her class with First Class Honors for her Diploma and Bachelors degrees and received her Masters Degree in Special Education and Teaching from Nova Southeastern University in 2003. In her spare time, she loves music, singing, cooking, having fun, and airplanes.  She is a believer in Christ.
