Dr. Akweta Hickman is a current ASCD Faculty Member, consulting on the topics of Special Education, Instructional Leadership, Coaching, Project Management, Growth, and Development in the emotional intelligence area. Additionally, she serves as an adjunct professor of educational leadership and is a field supervisor for principal interns. Dr. Hickman served as the First Author of a White Paper in Dallas Baptist University's Global Community Quarterly, Vol. 2 No., entitled "Stirring the Educator's Call: Advancing Retention and Relationships with the Influence of Emotional Intelligence." She is also a Master Trainer for EQi 2.0 and EQ 360.
Dr. Hickman is a certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner, Executive Coach, Consultant, Organizational Leadership expert, Speaker, Trainer, and Professional Thought Partner. She brings unique perspectives from her experience to organizations, empowering and inspiring others to unleash their untapped potential to transform their lives and organizations. Dr. Hickman has been cited in international peer-reviewed journals for her research on special education teachers and emotional intelligence.
A native of Arkansas, Dr. Hickman earned her Bachelor of Science in Education in Special Education from the University of Central Arkansas, a Master of Education in Administration from Dallas Baptist University, her Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership and Policy Studies from Tarleton State University, and a Project Management Certificate from Southern Methodist University. She has served as a public school teacher, Educational Diagnostician, and campus and district-level administrator. As a consultant, she was a member of the TEA Commissioner Monitor Conservator pool for special education and accountability, a TEA authorized School Board Member Trainer, she has served as an international consultant for special education, presented at national conferences, and as a guest lecturer at major universities in the field of Special Education.
Currently, Dr. Hickman is the CEO of Amoxie Group, which provides project management and change management services, program evaluations, training development, consulting, coaching, special education evaluations, and related services.
Dr. Akweta Hickman is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators, the Association for Supervision Curriculum Development, the Project Management Institute, and the Employee Assistance Professional Association. Her involvement in these esteemed groups underscores her dedication to staying connected with industry trends and best practices, further enhancing her expertise and contributions to the field.
