Julie Simpson, a billing specialist and bookkeeper with BIG DOG BOOKKEEPING, LLC, brings more than 25 years of bookkeeping experience and over 35 years of medical billing experience to her work with small businesses. Based in Deerfield Beach, Florida, she is building her company to help owners improve profitability, organize their finances, and make informed decisions through accurate bookkeeping and meaningful financial reporting. Julie earned her bookkeeping certificate in 1988 and began her career in an entry-level medical billing position serving radiologists at a local hospital.
From that starting point, Julie advanced through hands-on positions that expanded her knowledge of billing processes, office procedures, financial recordkeeping, and daily business operations. Her medical billing experience grew through work with billing services and orthopedic practices before she became an administrator for a primary care physician and nurse practitioner.
Julie managed that practice for 24 years, until the physician retired, and handled virtually every aspect of its operations. Her responsibilities included full-service medical billing, office management, scheduling, prior authorizations, electronic health record maintenance, payment posting, account reconciliation, and other administrative functions. This long-term leadership role strengthened her ability to coordinate complex financial and operational responsibilities with accuracy and consistency.
Her work across radiology, orthopedics, primary care, and nurse practitioner settings also gave Julie extensive familiarity with the medical revenue cycle. Her experience encompasses insurance verification, coding workflows, claim submission, denial resolution, accounts receivable, and financial account management. She specializes in full-charge bookkeeping as well as medical billing and coding.
Alongside her healthcare career, Julie managed bookkeeping for her father’s per diem home health business and her husband’s trucking business. Supporting these companies broadened her understanding of the practical financial and operational challenges small-business owners encounter. It also reinforced the value of organized records and useful financial reports when monitoring cash flow, evaluating performance, and planning business decisions.
Through Big Dog Bookkeeping, Julie is translating that combined experience into dependable, personalized service for business owners. Her work includes accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, financial reporting, and support with reorganizing business structures to promote a more balanced life. Her goal is to help clients understand their numbers, maintain accurate records, and gain greater confidence and clarity about their financial future.
Julie is affiliated with AAPC and continues to draw upon her background in bookkeeping, healthcare administration, medical billing, and business operations. Outside her professional life, she enjoys reading, riding her motorcycle, exercising, and spending time with her dog and family. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver for an elderly parent, she has developed patience, compassion, dedication, and perseverance—values that also shape how she serves clients.
