For Juanis Vratsanos, Founder & CEO of Torpora Coffee, entrepreneurship is rooted in a journey of adaptation, learning, and determined work. Her path began when she arrived in the United States a decade ago in search of better opportunities. Since then, she has moved through roles in caregiving and hospitality while developing a focused interest in coffee and the culture surrounding it.

Today, Vratsanos dedicates herself fully to Torpora Coffee, a woman-owned business based in Bethpage. Through the company, she shares organic Colombian specialty coffee and elements of her culture with communities across Long Island. The work reflects both the skills she developed over time and the larger purpose she brings to building a business.

A beginning shaped by opportunity

Starting over in a new country required Vratsanos to take on work that was immediately available. She began as a live-in nanny, a role that marked an early chapter in her life in the United States. From there, she entered hospitality, an industry that gave her the chance to learn through direct experience and steady progression.

Her hospitality career developed across a range of positions, beginning with host and server roles before moving into leadership and full-time management. Each step brought a different level of responsibility. The progression also reinforced the value of service, consistency, and the ability to work with people in changing environments.

Rather than treating that experience as separate from her future plans, Vratsanos used it as part of the foundation for what would become Torpora Coffee. Hospitality helped shape an understanding of how people gather, what thoughtful service can mean, and how a product can become part of a broader experience. Those lessons continue to inform the way she approaches her company.

Learning coffee independently

Alongside her work, Vratsanos pursued coffee education independently. She studied the subject and completed specialized courses, building knowledge beyond the day-to-day demands of her hospitality roles. This commitment to continuous learning became central to the development of Torpora Coffee.

Her interest in coffee was not only professional. It also offered a way to connect business-building with culture. Torpora Coffee centers organic Colombian specialty coffee, creating an opportunity to share a product connected to Colombia while engaging customers and communities on Long Island. In that sense, the company brings together her entrepreneurial goals and her desire to represent an important part of her background.

The move from studying coffee while working to leading a coffee company was not presented as an overnight shift. It grew from sustained effort across multiple stages of her career. Vratsanos’s story highlights a practical form of ambition: learning while employed, advancing through experience, and continuing to build toward a goal with intention.

Growing a business with a wider purpose

As Founder & CEO, Vratsanos is now focused full-time on growing Torpora Coffee. Her vision extends beyond establishing a successful company. She hopes to create opportunities, support others, and show what perseverance, purpose, and ongoing education can help make possible.

That purpose is especially visible in the way she describes the business. Torpora Coffee is a commercial venture, but it is also a vehicle for connection. By sharing organic Colombian specialty coffee and her culture, Vratsanos seeks to create meaningful points of engagement with the communities she serves. The company’s identity is therefore tied to both product and personal story.

Her experience also offers a reminder that professional growth can take many forms. A career may begin in one role, expand through another field, and eventually make room for a business of one’s own. For Vratsanos, the journey has included caregiving, hospitality leadership, independent study, and entrepreneurship. None of those chapters stands alone; together, they form the path that has led to Torpora Coffee.

Perseverance as a business value

Vratsanos’s goals for Torpora Coffee remain closely connected to the values that shaped her journey. She aims to grow a company with purpose while supporting others and creating opportunity. Her experience reflects the importance of continuing to learn, taking responsibility as circumstances change, and building steadily from the work at hand.

From Bethpage, Torpora Coffee represents the next stage of that work. As Vratsanos continues to develop her woman-owned business, she brings forward the perspective of someone who sought new opportunities, built experience across hospitality, and turned a deep interest in coffee into a focused entrepreneurial endeavor. Her story is one of persistence, cultural connection, and a commitment to making the next opportunity meaningful.
