Dr. Zuleyma Chahin: Humanitarian Leader and Global Health Expert Driving Impact Across Latin America and Asia
Dr. with over 15 years of experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating international cooperation, social development, and humanitarian assistance programs across Latin America and Asia.
Currently serving as Deputy Director of Programs at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in El Salvador, Dr. Chahin leads strategic initiatives addressing the urgent needs of communities affected by humanitarian crises, forced displacement, and gender-based violence.
A trained medical doctor with a Master’s in Public Health and advanced studies in social intervention, territorial development, senior management, and project management, Dr. Chahin brings a multidisciplinary approach to solving complex challenges. She has successfully led multicultural teams in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Ecuador, and Nepal, managing programs funded by USAID, the European Union, UN agencies, and private donors.
Throughout her career, Dr. Chahin has held prominent leadership positions, including Interim Country Director, Director of Programs, and Senior Program Coordinator. Recognized for her strategic vision, she has built strong partnerships with governments, NGOs, and community actors, while implementing innovative, results-driven solutions that have earned her multiple awards and distinctions.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Chahin is a passionate advocate for lifelong learning and professional development. She actively participates in international conferences and workshops to stay at the forefront of humanitarian best practices. In her personal life, she enjoys outdoor activities, traveling, exploring new cultures, reading, and sharing quality time with family and friends.
Her unwavering dedication to service, equity, and continuous learning has established her as a regional reference in humanitarian leadership and global health—inspiring teams and driving meaningful change for vulnerable populations worldwide.
