Terry Mays: Championing Families and Children in Indiana’s Court System

With nearly two decades of experience in mental health and family law, Terry Mays, M.S., is making a lasting impact as a Family Court Specialist and Therapist for the State of Indiana. A graduate of Capella University (M.S., 2006) and Campbell University (B.S., 2002), Mays combines clinical expertise with a deep commitment to helping children and families navigate the often-complex terrain of custody, conflict, and crisis.

A Registered Mediator and seasoned mental health counselor, Mays specializes in substance abuse, custody evaluations, crisis intervention, mediation, and clinical research. Her holistic approach ensures that the emotional and psychological well-being of children remains central to every decision. Whether facilitating mediation between parents or conducting in-depth custody evaluations, Mays consistently advocates for what matters most: the safety, stability, and long-term health of Indiana’s youth.

With extensive experience in court-affiliated therapy and family systems, Terry brings clarity and compassion to challenging cases—often bridging gaps between legal processes and mental health needs. She also contributes to statewide efforts in family law reform and early intervention practices.

Terry Mays’ work is guided by the belief that every child deserves a voice, and every family deserves a path forward. Her expertise continues to shape policies, support judicial decisions, and—most importantly—offer hope to families across Indiana.
