The Worldwide Women’s Association Recognizes Dr. Svetlana Kovtunova, MD, FAAFP

Dr. Svetlana Kovtunova, MD, FAAFP, a board-certified Family physician with more than 20 years of experience in primary and acute care medicine, is distinguished by a rare combination of executive leadership and hands-on clinical practice. Having served in senior roles including Chief and Chairman of Hospitalist Departments across multiple institutions, she continues to practice actively as a Hospitalist, ensuring her leadership remains firmly grounded in frontline patient care.
Throughout her career, Dr. Kovtunova has partnered with executive leadership to advance quality, safety, compliance, and operational performance within complex healthcare systems. Her service on Medical Executive, Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Quality Improvement, and Corporate Compliance Committees has supported impactful policy development, strengthened interdisciplinary collaboration, and driven measurable improvements in patient safety.
By maintaining an active clinical role alongside executive responsibilities, Dr. Kovtunova effectively aligns institutional priorities with physician engagement, patient-centered outcomes, and sustainable operational practices. Her leadership philosophy emphasizes credibility, collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Education and mentorship remain central to her professional mission. Dr. Kovtunova has served as Volunteer Faculty for a Family Medicine Residency Program and, earlier in her career, as an Associate Professor Department of ER and critical care in Medical College, reflecting a longstanding commitment to physician development and lifelong learning.
Dr. Kovtunova is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP), formally recognized at Convocation 2025. She maintains active membership in the Society of Hospital Medicine, CHEST, Age Management Medical Group, American Medical Women’s Association, and the American College of Artificial Intelligence and Medicine.
Demonstrating her commitment to forward-thinking healthcare leadership, Dr. Kovtunova completed Executive Education at Harvard Medical School in December 2025, earning certification in AI in Health Care: From Strategy to Implementation. Her work reflects a thoughtful approach to innovation and the responsible integration of emerging technologies into clinical practice.
