The Worldwide Women’s Association Recognizes Dr. Shereen Altamimi, PhD

Dr. Shereen Altamimi, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in Retail Management at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Ted Rogers School of Management who connects retail leadership, engineering, and management education. Drawing on more than 20 years of industry experience, she helps organizations and future business leaders make better decisions in an increasingly complex, AI-enabled world. Her experience encompasses corporate strategy, operations, business transformation, growth, decision modelling, and risk assessment.

Before entering academia, Shereen held senior leadership roles at Rexall, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rogers Communications, Sobeys, and Loblaw. Across these organizations, she led initiatives involving corporate strategy, operations, business transformation, and growth. This progression gave her practical experience addressing organizational priorities, managing change, and making complex decisions in major retail and communications environments.

That industry background now shapes Shereen’s approach to management education. Through real business cases, applied projects, and industry engagement, she challenges students to move beyond identifying problems and develop recommendations they can clearly explain and defend. Her teaching emphasizes critical thinking, ethical judgment, and the ability to weigh evidence and competing priorities under uncertain conditions.

Shereen holds doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees in Industrial Engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University. Her research in decision modelling and risk assessment provides a foundation for examining how complex decisions can be structured when evidence is incomplete and conditions are changing. This engineering background supports an interdisciplinary perspective that connects analytical rigour with the practical needs of organizations and business leaders.

Her current work extends these interests into retail innovation and artificial intelligence. As a contributor to the Observatory for Retail AI, Shereen examines how AI is reshaping retail strategy and operations. She is particularly focused on advancing the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence into strategic decision-making while keeping business priorities, risks, and responsible judgment in view.

Within management education, Shereen explores how students can engage critically with AI while continuing to develop independent judgment. Her work prepares future leaders not only to understand emerging tools, but also to question assumptions, assess evidence, consider ethical implications, and communicate the reasoning behind their decisions. Through mentorship and industry partnerships, she further connects classroom learning with the challenges students may encounter in their careers.

Alongside her academic role, Shereen is Founder and Managing Director of Altamimi Consulting Corporation and Co-Founder of AI Profit Architects. Through these professional activities, she helps organizations connect strategic priorities with practical innovation and translate those priorities into action. Her combined work as an educator, researcher, consultant, and mentor reflects a consistent focus on applying analytical methods to consequential business questions.

Looking ahead, Shereen plans to continue advancing responsible approaches to AI-enabled strategic decision-making and supporting the evolution of management education in the era of artificial intelligence. Her work remains centered on equipping organizations and future leaders with the critical thinking, ethical judgment, and confidence required to navigate uncertainty.

WWA members are invited to connect with Shereen to exchange perspectives on retail management, strategic decision-making, business transformation, management education, and responsible innovation.
