The Worldwide Women’s Association Recognizes Ekta Talwar

Ekta Talwar is the Co-Founder of Uprotect LLC, a personal safety mobile application that promotes public safety for campuses and communities across the United States. Impelled to help make the world a safer place for women after learning of a terrible gang rape in India that garnered national attention, Ekta sought a solution to help communities remain safe and comfortable places to be. Currently releasing the app and gearing up to launch its website, Ekta is thrilled by the initial success and reaction to Uprotect, and excited to help bring greater peace of mind to students. The app will feature police integration to provide safety alerts on a city-based format, and a forum where people can report suspicious activity, racial discrimination, drug sales or abuse, and terrorist related suspicious activity to the police as well as community members.

After earning a Certificate in Alternate Dispute Resolution from York University, Ekta went on to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Social Work and Social Policy from Massey University. She is currently working toward a Masters of Arts in Global Security Studies at Johns Hopkins University. A highlight of Ekta’s career thus far has been working for a think tank in India, where she researched the freshwater conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia.

Ekta attributes her success to the network of highly skilled and motivated people on her team. She hopes to one day distribute the app to help protect all people as it shows promise to apply in domestic violence, molestation and terrorist attacks.

Outside of her research and work, Ekta donates time and resources to Amnesty International.
