The Worldwide Women’s Association Recognizes Andrea Devis-Morales, PhD


 
Dr. Andrea Devis-Morales is a Consultant in Metoceanic Modeling for the Colombian Petroleum Institute of Ecopetrol (ICP-TIP), where she has been for the past year. A celebrated researcher and scientist, she bears the distinction of being the only woman in Colombia with bachelor’s and doctorates degrees in Oceanography and has vast postdoctorate experience. She centers her research on physical oceanography, geophysical data analysis, the study of El Niño and La Niña, extreme climate events, and ocean-atmospheric dynamics in the tropical region.
 
Her work has been published extensively, and she has authored and co-authored 5 books on oceanography and 7 peer-reviewed articles in international journals including Continental Shelf Research, Journal of Marine Systems, Applied Ocean Research, Advances in Geosciences, Geophysical Research Letters and Renewable Energy. In addition to her research, Andrea has taught at two universities.
 
A trailblazer in the field in her native Colombia, Andrea studied abroad, earning a degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in Mexico and her doctorate at the Universidad de Concepción in Chile. She is driven by the desire to push the field forward and to expand its reach in her country, and is passionate about helping to mentor and encourage women and marine scientists to explore and grow in the field. In addition of being a lifetime member of the WWA, she belongs to the Ocean Data and Information Network for the Caribbean and South America (ODINCARSA).
