Biography
Renee Williams was born in Montreal and relocated with her family to Edmonton nine months after her birth; Edmonton has been home for her family since. Passionate about the capital city of Alberta and all that it has to offer, Renee has built her career on reminding locals of the magic of Edmonton and telling the world about this unique and totally authentic destination. It was clear to Renee at a young age to pursue a career in public relations and she completed her post secondary education in Calgary at Mount Royal University. Continuing education is important to her so she pursued her Certified Destination Management Executive accreditation and graduated from the internationally recognized program in July 2019. With a strong background in experience development, marketing, and customer experience, Renee joined the Fort Edmonton Management Company team in late 2019, after a nine year tenure with Edmonton Economic Development Corporation within the Edmonton Tourism division. At FEMCo, Renee provides oversight to the customer experience team to include: Marketing & Communications, Volunteers, Core Programs, Experience Development, Edmonton Yukon Railway operations, Idigenous Relations portfolio, Retail & Admissions, and Wardrobe. Her professional work, education and volunteer experience have given her strong strategic communications proficiency for over 15 years. Throughout her career, Renee has focused on media relations, strategic communications (offline, online, and social media), brand management, communications planning, and project management. These skills have afforded her the opportunity to lead prominent marketing and communications initiatives promoting Edmonton with KLM Royal Duth Airlines in Europe, the launch of Air Canada’s Edmonton to San Francisco direct flight in 2018, and the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Recognized as a leader in the tourism community and the workplace, Renee has had the opportunity to participate on key board and committee positions with volunteer organizations, which include the Destinations International Advisory Committee on Diversity and Inclusion, and the Alberta Culinary Tourism Alliance. Her outgoing personality, attention to detail, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to customer service excellence drive her passion and aptitude for teamwork. With tenure in the government, not-for-profit, and private sectors, Renee’s experience covers a myriad of industries and it is the perfect complement to the skill sets within the FEMCo executive team. Renee has a broad network and has built relationships with colleagues in the tourism space all over the world.
