Ana Valderrama is an Architect (UNR) and Landscape Architect (UIUC) and PhD Candidate at the Department of Landscape Architecture of University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC). She is Founder and Principal of Cardo, a Landscape Architecture firm with base in Rosario, Argentina. She is also cofounder member and principal of Matéricos Periféricos Group, a civil organization for spatial and social justice with base in Rosario, Argentina. She is full professor since 2010 and head of the Master of Landscape Architecture Program since 2018 at Universidad Nacional del Rosario, Argentina. She has served as Associate Dean of the School of Architecture of the same University in the period 2015-2019 and as Director of Innovation at the Science and Technology Secretary (UNR). Valderrama has a long-lasting professional experience in public and community-based architecture, design for climate change and resilience, design and build, and accupunctural urban planning. She has been visiting professor in different universities in the US, Europe, and Latin America. She is author of several publications, including the books Poéticas Colectivas (Bismanediciones, 2019), and Matéricos Periféricos 15 “Diez Años del Taller Valderrama.” (UNR Editora, 2021). She has received more than 20 prizes and distinctions for her professional and community work including the recent preselection to the 2022 Inclusion Award from the New York City Architecture Biennial, and the BIAU (Iberoamerican Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism) 2022 Prize “Inhabiting the margins” for a collaborative project with other groups of designers. Ana has been recipient of academic scholarships, grants, and fellowships, including Fulbright Scholarship 2011-2013, and Graham Foundation Grant in 2022 along with Felipe Mesa and Gustavo Diéguez.
