More than 25 years
Susan Ferestien has been the senior director of business development at Sodexo for 15 years. Currently, she is responsible for more than 200 food service contracts. An average day does not exist for her; she is responsible for establishing contracts with universities, sales, assembling sensitive documents, proposals, and scheduling and attending client meetings on campuses. She is most proud of her career while she has been in her current role. Her success is measured by the client retention rate, and the company has obtained a 98-percent retention rate under her leadership.
Susan is a business professional with a diverse 30-year background in the hospitality, food and beverage, and contract food service arena industries. When she was 16 years old, she took a job as a waitress at a banquet hall, and she loved it. She knew at this point the food service industry was her passion. She has previously worked as the catering manager at Starwood Hotels in Boca Raton, Florida, and has been the director of catering at Carnegie Hall.
Susan attributes her success to her personal commitment to her work and always being willing to do whatever needs to be done in order to finish the job. She is looking to make connections with other female professionals and share and gain additional information, connections, and experiences. In the next three-to-five years, Susan plans to become a vice president of sales or possibly go back to corporate America.
