Cassandra Wooten was born in Chadbun, NC and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Growing up in North Philadelphia poor, for Cassandra this did not mean misery or hopelessness, she instinctively knew that poverty would not be her legacy but part of her journey to independence. “Not having and wanting is a great motivator”. Besides, her family injected a lot of humor in their everyday lives and listening to music was a part of life in the Wooten household. Cassandra enjoyed hearing her grandfather and uncle play the guitar as they regularly did for fun. This exposure inspired and her and encouraged her eventual involvement in music and entertainment in a profound way. Later, having the opportunity to travel with “The Godfather of Soul” James Brown, playing major venues further educated her. Seeing the impact of major stars and how their dynamic performances could have on an audience was key to Cassandra’s success with The Ritchie Family. Cassandra has spent more than fifty years preparing and performing as a singer in the fields of R&B, Disco and Pop Music. As a young person, she performed in neighborhood groups while also singing in Glee Club and Girls Chorus in Jr. HS. It was during those formative years that the love of performing began to take hold. There was and still is something magical about sharing your talents and gifts with a live audience. As opportunities prevailed, Cassandra sang and shared the stage with other talented girls and women. We had names like the Superiorettes, the Yums Yums, & Honey and the Bees, finally settling on our current name of The Ritchie Family. The Ritchie Family haas been recording and performing since 1976. Our first recording of Brazil was nominated for a Grammy and our second release of The Best Disco in Town from the album Arabian Nights. became an International hit that garnered gold and platinum status. From there we traveled and performed in major cities on most continents around the world. Cassandra is proud to have performed, in Brussels Belgium, Vienna Australia, Madrid Spain, Caracas Venezuela, Paris France, Rome Italy, Sidney Australia, Manila in the Philippines. One of our first performances was in Montreal, Canada. Cassandra stated “there are too many cities to name in a single biography.” Let’s just I’ve been blessed. The current makeup of The Ritchie Family consist of three ladies, Cassandra Wooten (original member), Renee Guillery-Wearing and original member Cheryl Mason-Dorman. The ladies are still performing in European and the US venues. In Spring of 2023, The Ritchie Family performed on the prestigious Ultimate Disco Cruise, cruising to Key West, Fl. and Cozumel, Mexico. Performing for hundreds of fans. Since the resurgent of Disco music, Cassandra and The Ritchie Family have enjoyed performing with other Legendary artist from the Disco era. In addition to the Ritchie Family’s accomplishments, Cassandra found the time to earn an undergraduate degree in Radio, Television & Film also, a graduate degree from LaSalle University earning a master’s degree in Instructional Technology Management. When not performing, Cassandra is a Trainer and part of an Informatics team in the State of DE., where she has resided since 2011. Cassandra sees herself as a global citizen who has a stake in world events. “We are all human beings with the same basic needs and I am committed to spread love to all humanity” “We all live under the same sun and breath the same air, these alone are ties that bind. One of Cassandra’s favorite charities is Save the Children. It is an internal organization committed to alleviating hunger in regions of the world. Cassandra supports this organization whole heartedly knowing that she could have easily been one of the children having grown up in poverty during her formative years. Lastly, opportunities to share my gifts and talents are important since I have been given much in my lifetime.
