Member story

Biography

I'm Kelly Andrea, a passionate civil engineer graduated from the Military University Nueva Granada in Colombia, with postgraduate studies at the prestigious Colombian School of Engineering Julio Garavito. My professional career has focused on specialized areas such as graphic expression, elective roads and urban transportation, traffic engineering, and road construction. My journey includes teaching courses at the Military University Nueva Granada (UMNG) and the School of Military Engineers (ESING), where I've shared my knowledge with future engineers. Additionally, I've been involved in transportation research, focusing on sustainable solutions that promote environmental protection and community development. I currently want to focus on studying and delving into the mobility patterns of women in urban environments. I want to understand the significant differences that exist between the mobility of men and women. There is a lack of data that considers these gender differences in mobility, leading to optimization of services primarily for men. Women tend to use micro-mobility services such as motorcycle and electric scooter rentals less often due to factors such as safety, comfort, and accessibility, which can influence this gap. For example, women often have a more complex and multifaceted mobility, linking multiple destinations in their daily routine. From cars to scooters, current shared mobility offerings fit better with men's linear daily mobility. For women, these offerings are not always attractive or adapted to their needs. In addition to differences in mobility behavior, socialization also influences women's transportation choices. Through my work, I aim to contribute to the development of a more inclusive and equitable transportation system, where the needs and experiences of women are comprehensively considered.
