Jennifer Sawyer

With 20 years of experience in commercial construction management, I offer clients support and guidance. I have experience managing complex municipal renovations, wastewater treatment plants, military installations, K-12, and higher education. I help clients navigate the construction process, select the right project partners, and oversee all project needs. I started in construction right out of high school. It wasn't something I looked for or thought I wanted to do. I was a server at the time, looking for an administrative position because I didn't want to work weekends anymore. I took a job as a receptionist at a local general contracting firm. I continued to learn the industry, advancing into roles with more responsibilities from bid procurement, estimating, material procurement, and ultimately running my own projects as project manager. Most of my career was focused on constructing water/wastewater plants and military installations. I met my business partner on a Carnegie library renovation and addition as I was the Project Manager for the construction management firm. The Barton Group was the oversight manager for the library. After the project completed, I was invited to coffee, thinking it was going to be a conversation reflecting on the completed project. Instead, the owner and founder of The Barton Group was looking to retire in the next couple of years and asked if I wanted the opportunity for ownership. I am proud to say that today I am Owner and Vice President of a 100% woman owned construction firm, offering oversight management, owner representation, consulting, and commercial real estate to clients. I have managed over $200 million in commercial construction projects in Southwest Michigan.
