Biography

Having been in the insurance industry for over 24 years, I have built a strong foundation and understanding of multiple facets of claims handling and claims leadership. I have appreciated the knowledge and relationships this career has given me. The main thing I believe this career has taught me is this simple statement: "To the world you may just be one person, but to one person you may be the world. " When I think of insurance, it's not policies, endorsements, or covered vs. Not; its PEOPLE. Those who have gone through something as small as a minor water loss to a family who has lost a loved one to a tragic accident. It's entire communities destroyed by catastrophic events and coming together to rebuild. It's a new family starting out with their first home and policies. It's real people and real life. When I look back on my career, I want to remember the people who touched my life. It's not that I am not proud of my professional accomplishments, promotions, designations, degrees etc. But what resonates within me are the experiences this career has provided which helped shaped me as a person. I remember being a 22 year old, fresh out of college, not knowing what is was doing as a new claims adjuster, hugging a parent who lost their 17 year old child in a horrible car accident, while they thanked me for handling their auto claim. I remember the family whose home was completely leveled by a tornado and helping them through the claims process to rebuild. Having them invite me over when the home was rebuilt to thank me for being patient with them and understanding how hard it was for them to go through losing so much. I will also never forget the grandfather whose 3 year old granddaughter stepped into a fire pit on his property which still had burning embers way down underneath the extinguished debris; causing 3d degree burns to her tiny feet and legs. He cried and cried in his living room, blaming himself and begging me to help his son and daughter-in-law with their medical bills. Then meeting with the son and his family while they sobbed, not just for their child's suffering, but that of the father's guilt, yet not blaming him for the accident that it was. Their THANK YOUs still resonates with me years later. Again, I can provide a BIO of ALL my personal accomplishments in my career, which I am proud of; but knowing that at small moments in time I was the world to someone in need makes me proud of the career I chose and to continue to look for ways to help others.
