Biography

Dr. Andrea Elizabeth González Zuniga is an accomplished neuroscientist and researcher with expertise in various scientific fields, including molecular biochemistry, parasitology, virology, immunology, and neuroscience She is a Biochemist from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and holds a PhD in Biochemistry from Universidad de Chile. She also has completed postdoctoral fellowships in Immunology and Neuroscience from both Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Chile. Throughout her career, Dr. González Zuniga has developed a strong interest in neuroimmunology, specifically in the field of Alzheimer's research. Over the past six years, she has been actively involved in validating an early detection biomarker called Alz-tau ®, working as a principal investigator on an Insertion on the Productive Sector Grant (PAI) awarded by the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID). This grant enables young researchers to engage in applied science. In recognition of her contributions, Dr. González Zuniga received a travel award to attend the AAIC 2022 in San Diego, where she became an ISTAART member and actively participated in various professional interest areas (PIAs). She currently serves on the executive committee of the PIA dedicated to elevating early career researchers (PEERs) as the South America Continent Lead. In this role, her mission is to support and assist early career scientists working in dementia research in South America. Dr. González Zuniga's dedication to mentoring and supporting early career researchers is evident through her involvement in the neuroscience mentoring club, where she shares her experiences and helps others navigate the challenges of building a successful career in the field. She credits her success to her unwavering focus, drive, and perseverance. Dr. González Zuniga is eager to connect with likeminded professionals and further contribute to the field of neuroimmunology and Alzheimer's research.
