The Worldwide Women’s Association Recognizes Sonia Tummala

Sonia Tummala: Connecting Technical Communication, Education and Storytelling

Sonia Tummala is a Senior Technical Writer, Knowledge Management Leader, Training Strategist, published children’s author, writing educator, and community advocate with more than 20 years of professional experience. Her career has centered on making complex information easier to understand, use, and share, with expertise spanning technical documentation, knowledge management, learning and development, training, curriculum development, policy and process documentation, AI content strategy, and organizational communications.

Throughout her corporate career, Sonia has worked with globally recognized organizations including Meta, Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson/Kenvue, USAA, ExxonMobil, and Weatherford, as well as organizations across technology, healthcare, energy, and financial services. Her work combines strong communication skills with an understanding of how people access information, learn new processes, and apply knowledge in their everyday work.

Sonia holds a Master of Science in Professional and Technical Communications from New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is also TESOL certified and has pursued professional development in AI-enabled content, instructional design, digital learning, knowledge management, and related technologies, including ChatGPT, Midjourney, and DALL-E.

Her professional interests have expanded naturally into education and writing. Through Writing With Sonia, she provides writing education, tutoring, vocabulary development, academic communication support, and college application essay coaching. She works with students to build confidence in their writing while helping them develop the skills needed to communicate clearly and effectively.

Sonia is also the author of Cookie’s Sweetest Day: Where Friendship Leads the Way!, a children’s book focused on kindness, friendship, inclusion, and belonging. Through Stories With Sonia, she shares her work as an author and explores literacy, education, personal growth, community, and the journey of pursuing a childhood dream of becoming a writer.

The book has also become the foundation for broader literacy and community outreach. Sonia created Cookie’s Day: A Kindness & Creativity Program, which combines storytelling, writing, creativity, kindness, and age-appropriate social-emotional learning activities for children. She has brought these ideas into school and Montessori programs, community events, and other educational settings.

Community involvement has been an important part of Sonia’s work as well. She served two years as PTO President at Sartartia Middle School and has volunteered and served as an advisory board member with Angels with a Mission, supporting community initiatives, fundraising, and scholarship efforts. Her involvement has included literacy programs, teacher appreciation, and activities supporting children and families.

Sonia’s work as an author and educator has received recognition through features including VoyageHouston’s Rising Stars series, Daily Mom, and Scribers Digest. Her experience across corporate communications, education, authorship, and community service reflects a consistent interest in helping people communicate, learn, and connect.

Whether she is developing technical content for a global organization, helping a student find the right words, or using a children’s story to introduce the importance of kindness, Sonia brings the same purpose to her work: making information meaningful and giving people the tools and confidence to find their voices.
