Debra Couwenberg

Debra Couwenberg is a compassionate storyteller and devoted animal lover from Northwestern Canada. Debra has one daughter, Dini, and raised her as a single mom. She understands grief all too well as she lost both of her parents by the time her daughter was 2 months old and has had many pets in her life over the years. Debra has always been an entrepreneur herself and as a lifelong pet parent, she has shared her home and heart with a variety of animals throughout her life, including 2 chicks (funny story), guinea pigs, rats (Momma & babies from biology class over Christmas), cats, dogs, and birds! Currently, she lives with two beloved cats, but it was the loss of her cherished Devon Rex, Diva, that deeply impacted her and ultimately led her to the story of Bosco and the Rainbow Bridge. Through her own journey with grief, Debra discovered the original short story, Bosco and the Rainbow Bridge by Rita Ann Freeman. Moved by its message, she felt it had the potential to help children understand loss in a gentle and meaningful way if written as a children’s book. With permission and full copyright, she adapted the book into a beautifully illustrated children’s version, ensuring that families everywhere could share its comforting story with their little ones. Debra believes that every pet leaves a lasting paw print on our hearts, and she is passionate about helping families navigate the loss of their furry companions. In addition to her work as an author, she founded WhiskerTorium, a company dedicated to honouring pets who have passed away by offering beautifully crafted, discrete urns and keepsakes. With both WhiskerTorium and Bosco and the Rainbow Bridge, Debra will be donating a portion of the proceeds to help animals in need. Through Bosco and the Rainbow Bridge, Debra hopes to bring comfort to children and families, helping them embrace the love and memories that never fade.
