Vickie R Shields, PhD

As a Life and Career coach, I help high-achieving women set and achieve their goals for career advancement, leadership improvement, and enjoying healthier and more productive work relationships. I help women get to the root of any blocks in mindset, holding them back from achieving their purpose and finding their bliss. Formally the Provost and Executive Vice President at Nevada State University I was responsible for establishing the academic vision of the institution and ensuring the quality of academic programs and student support services. In 2018 I was awarded the coveted, “Iconic Woman of Distinction Award” in the category of Education by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). Prior positions include Professor of Communication, Director of a Women’s Studies Program, Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences, and Dean of Social Sciences and Social Work. I received my M.A. and PhD degrees from the Ohio State University where I was awarded The Ohio State University Presidential Fellowship for demonstrating outstanding scholarly accomplishment and potential. My B.A. is from Boise State University who named me BSU Alumna of the Year in 2005. In that same year I completed the Management Development Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. I am an internationally known scholar in Feminist Media Studies and the author of Measuring Up: How Advertising Affects Self Image, a winner of best book by the Visual Communication Division of the National Communication Association. I am the proud recipient of numerous teaching and scholarship awards and honors.
