Joy Seguin

Joy Seguin, author of "Is Advocating a Crime? Trust Everyone Trust No One", is a remarkable individual who has dedicated her life to advocating for those who need it most. As a parent of a young man with a developmental disability, Joy understands firsthand the challenges and joys that come with raising a child who requires special care and attention. Residing in a small eastern Ontario community, Joy recognizes and respects the traditional land on which she lives, belonging to the Honaushone Huron-Mendit peoples. Her deep appreciation for the land and its heritage shapes her perspective and fuels her drive to create a better world for her son and others like him. Joy's journey as a parent of a child who remains in a perpetual state of toddlerhood has led her down unexpected paths, opening her eyes to new professions, advocacy work, and the trials and tribulations that come with it. She has become a passionate advocate, striving to provide her son with a high quality of life while also caring for and speaking up for senior family members. Throughout her life, Joy has pursued various careers, each reflecting her unwavering commitment to helping others. She has owned a beauty salon, where she used her talents to uplift and empower her clients. As an Adult Literacy Instructor with the Upper Canada School Board in Eastern Ontario, Canada, Joy dedicated herself to teaching adults and seniors basic computer skills, enabling them to navigate the digital world with confidence. Her passion for education led her to earn a Teacher of Adults Certification at St. Lawrence College, where she honed her skills and knowledge in guiding adult learners. In recognition of her exceptional contributions, Joy was honored with the President's Award from her community college. This recognition speaks to her dedication, expertise, and the positive impact she has made on the lives of others. Joy's most recent accomplishment is the publication of her book titled "Is Advocating a Crime? Trust Everyone Trust No One." Released in February 2023, this enlightening and empowering book challenges conventional thinking about the treatment of seniors and disabled individuals. It offers valuable insights into the importance of advocacy and prompts readers to question societal norms.
