Gayathri Balakumar Advances Policy-Aware AI Systems with Groundbreaking Lakehouse Research Presented at IEEE CCWC

Enterprise FinTech Leader and Data Engineer Highlights Lineage-Driven RAG Architecture to Reduce AI Hallucination and Optimize Cost

8/18/2026 – Gayathri Balakumar, a seasoned Data Engineer and enterprise FinTech technology leader with over a decade of experience building large-scale financial platforms, recently presented her latest research titled “Policy-Aware RAG on the Lakehouse: Lineage-Driven Retrieval over Apache Iceberg on S3 to Reduce Hallucination and Cost” at the IEEE Consumer Communications & Networking Conference.

Her work addresses one of the most critical challenges in enterprise AI today: reducing hallucinations in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems while maintaining governance, compliance, and cost efficiency. By leveraging Apache Iceberg-based lakehouse architecture on Amazon S3 and incorporating lineage-driven retrieval mechanisms, Balakumar demonstrated how enterprises can build policy-aware AI systems that are both reliable and economically sustainable.

With over 10 years of experience pioneering enterprise-grade FinTech initiatives, Gayathri has led the design and implementation of scalable data platforms that support regulatory compliance, governance frameworks, and advanced analytics across complex financial ecosystems.

In addition to her IEEE presentation, Gayathri has published her research on TechRxiv, contributing to the broader technology research community:

She also served as a Keynote Speaker at the Data Science & Machine Learning Conference hosted by Aver Conferences, where she shared insights on modern AI architectures, data governance, and scalable machine learning systems.

Gayathri holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering and is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in technology. She has actively participated in multiple Women in Tech conferences and continues to contribute meaningfully to the global data engineering community.

Her professional journey reflects a consistent commitment to:

  • Enterprise FinTech innovation
  • Policy-driven AI system design
  • Scalable lakehouse architectures
  • Data governance and lineage-based retrieval
  • Cost-efficient AI deployment strategies

“Responsible AI is not just about model accuracy — it’s about governance, traceability, and trust,” said Balakumar during her recent conference address. “Policy-aware retrieval over governed lakehouse architectures is foundational to building enterprise-ready AI.”
